Rootbound

When I first moved down to SC, you could see a few of this plant’s roots through the clear vase. Now, though, I’m not sure that you could get the thing out of its container!

I tried to think of a spiritual analogy from the idea of being rootbound, but wasn’t successful. Any ideas?

In other news, today was a gorgeous day to do a cookout on the back porch of the office…

Obviously, that plant needs to be replanted so it can continue growing. I wonder if sometimes we grow root-bound in our lives to the point that we’re so tangled up we can’t expand anymore in order to grow or deepen. In my life, that’s usually the time that God starts building a desire to go somewhere else, do something new - open my heart to what He might bring if I am no longer bound to the place I have sunk my roots. There is blooming where you’re planted, and there is restricting His work.

What the heck kind of plant is that?

Yay, Kelly! Thanks for bailing out my lack of spiritual analogies:-D

And you actually made me think of another one, too…I wonder how many of us are “rootbound” in the sense that we are so attached to the things of this world that we aren’t ready for eternal glory. Our roots are so planted in the things of this world that we simply aren’t ready to move on to the wonders of eternity with Christ. That’s certainly a kind of rootbound I want to avoid!

I think it’s just a corn plant, with the stalk hacked off and the new leaves growing out of it.

You grow corn? Thought that was restricted to your emails…?

    Hey now! :-D
